My best friend and I hosted a party for Initials Inc, so I decided to make a cake to go along with the theme. I went to the website to get some ideas, and saw some hot pink carnations, along with hot pink, green and blue polka dots on the website. Bingo!
The cake is a 3 layer 9 inch cinnamon cake with cream cheese icing. The carnations are made out of gum paste/fondant, and the polka dots and border is made out of fondant. Using fondant decorations on cakes covered in icing actually works out very well, because they attach so easily. Time to party!
Cinnamon Cake Recipe:
1 box Duncan Hines yellow cake mix
1 small box instant vanilla pudding
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cup oil
1/2 cup water
4 eggs
8 oz. sour cream
Beat all ingredients together, mixing well. Distribute into 3 9-inch baking pans and bake for about 26-27 minutes. Cool completely on wire racks, then cover with icing.
Icing:
2 lbs powdered sugar
2 cups vegetable shortening
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 can Duncan Hines cream cheese icing
Beat all ingredients at medium speed for 5-7 minutes, until well blended.
